Zak Hardaker Charity Golf Classic 2016

Nineteen teams took part in the 2016 Zak Hardaker Golf Classic at the Club on a rather soggy Monday afternoon. However, this did not dampen the spirits of those who took part and helped raise a significant sum for the Prince of Wales Hospice. Stars of the Rugby League world, both current and former players, helped make the day a success with Super League and Championship teams represented along with local businesses. The prize of a car, generously sponsored by Harratts Nissan, for anyone acing the Par 3 – 7th hole was safely in the hands of the insurers this year having been won by Tom Ludwell in 2015. Zak, last years Man of Steel, was unfortunately delayed on his return from Australia where he has been on loan to Penrith Panthers from the NRL. The prize presentation followed an excellent celebratory dinner and Q&A session with Rhinos stars Ryan Hall and Danny McGuire, with the winning team Wakefield Wildcats, who won the inaugural event last year generously agreeing to donate their prize to raise an additional £900 for the Hospice in a spirited auction conducted by Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive and member, Gary Hetherington. In conclusion, Gordon Tollefson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Hospice, gave a vote of thanks to everyone, including the days main sponsors, Leeds Rhinos, Harratts, Doosan Babcock and Handelsbanken for helping to make the day a success and for raising much needed funds for the Hospice and local community and looked forward to meeting everyone at the 2017 Classic back here at PDGC.
