Royal Navy Visit

The Club had the honour of hosting the Royal Navy at the weekend. The event held at the home club of the LDUGC President, Jack McKee was played in cold Northern weather, however, it was soon apparent from the enthusiasm of the Navy team they had warmed to our hospitality. The golfing events consisted of a 4BBB match play on the Saturday against a select team from PDGC. The Naval team showing their class winning 4-1 with only David Hartas and Mike Vasey securing the point. The Sunday event was against a select team of scratch players from the LDUGC, consisting of 18 Holes Foursomes in the morning and 18 Holes Singles matches in the afternoon. Perhaps the events at Saturday nights dinner, held in the clubhouse, had left the Navy team a little tired as they lost the Foursomes matches 10-0. However in true Navy spirit they recovered well in the Singles matches, winning 11-9 to take some positives despite losing the overall match 19-11. The team enjoyed drinks and an after match meal with good banter before heading on their long journey’s home, North, East, South and West. A most enjoyable weekend was had by all.
