Prince Of Wales Hospice Charity Golf Day

The annual Prince of Wales Hospice Golf Day took place on Friday 5 June at Pontefract and District Golf Club with twenty two teams taking part this year helping to raise a fantastic £3,300 to date. This will provide essential care and support for patients and their families at the Prince of Wales Hospice.Winners on the day were the NatWest Leeds team winning The Bob Abson Team Trophy with a score of 87 points, and Marjorie Smiths Ladies team winning the Ladies prize with 77 points. Prizes were also awarded to individuals for Nearest the Line (won by Gary Scriven DHL Supply Chain and Janet Machin) and Nearest the Pin (14th & 17th Hole, won by Steve Gallagher & Chris Berry from DHL Supply Chain and Jackie Fortnum & Janet Machin) Teams started the day with bacon sandwiches and refreshments whilst taking part in a Champagne putting competition before the Shotgun start commenced at 1pm. The fine, dry weather certainly helped the day’s activities as the teams played their round of golf to raise valuable funds. After a wonderful afternoon on the golf course, golfers enjoyed a beautifully prepared 2 course celebration dinner and prize presentations from Club Captain Chris Peace. The Raffle concluded the evening celebrations and this raised an amazing £869. Malcolm Huddlestone, Manager at the Golf Club said “it is always a pleasure and delight to welcome Gordon Tollefson and the Hospice team to Pontefract and District Golf Club and in helping raise much needed funds for the Hospice and local community. The support from businesses and our Club Members has been overwhelming this year. Congratulations to the winning teams and my personal thanks to Tracey Mearns for all the hard work and energy she put into pre-planning the event. We look forward already to next years event. Tracey Mearns, Partnership Development Coordinator had this to say about the event “I am absolutely delighted with the amount of money raised at Friday’s event.  We all had a really enjoyable day and I’d just like to thank everyone at Pontefract and District Golf Club for hosting such a marvellous event.  Also thanks to all the teams that took part, for their generosity throughout the day, and all the companies and individuals who donated such wonderful prizes.”
