Congratulations to Neil Woolford with a Nett 66 beating Simon Davis on count-back and Brian Pye (67) to secure this years ‘Ted Watson’ Eclectic.
The 10th year of the season ending ‘Parting Shot Trophy’ was played out at the delightful Ilkley Golf Club yesterday in bright but breezy conditions. Teams representing Mr Captain and President fought close matches, ending the day 3-3 in the match play. However, with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a half, and 0 for a loss Mr President’s team prevailed by 6 points, with the last group in swinging the result in the President’s favour. Well played everyone, the matches played as always in excellent spirit.

Gary has asked me to inform you the team are working as hard as they can to deal with the changeover from summer to autumn/winter conditions. Please take extra care when on the course during the coming winter months.
Congratulations to all who won a Club Major during the 2017 season, completed on Saturday with Mick Sheldon’s win in the Stableford Final. Invitations will be issued soon for our Prize Presentation evening on Saturday 11th November, commencing at 8pm.

Congratulations and well played to Brian Pye who recorded his first ever ‘ace’ in the swindle competition on 28th September, our 12th hole in one in 2017. Brian achieved the highlight of his 21 year golfing journey on the 17th hole.
Congratulations to Mick Sheldon on winning the 2017 Stableford Final with a score of 39points from Glen Fry (38points) and Paul Kennedy (36points). Well played.
Pontefract and District Golf Club, at the request of members, is running a gentlemen’s golf competition to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK on Saturday 21st October 2017. Members are advised the re-arranged Stableford Final will be played this Saturday 7th October, this will replace the 3 man team competition. An Extra Stableford will also be available to those who did not qualify for the final. Both competitions will be played from the White Tee. Please note these competitions will be non qualifying as ‘placing through the green’ will apply. Congratulations to Paul Bibb and Les Power on winning the 2017 Weaver 4BBB K/O. The final played in excellent spirit against John Atha and John Skidmore ended with a 3up victory for Paul and Les. Well played Gentlemen.
Playing members are advised our Head Greenkeeper has roped off several areas of the course to provide protection over the coming winter months. Gary asked me to inform you the roping is predominantly to direct trolley and buggy (when permitted) traffic away from unsuitable areas rather than foot traffic. Please take extra care on the course during the coming weeks and months.
Members are advised our Head Green-keeper Gary plans to open the course tomorrow, providing we don’t have any further rain. He has advised it is extremely likely to be ‘carrying only’ and in any event until the course dries significantly he will place a restriction that all powered trolleys be fitted with recognised winter wheels until 1st March 2018. At present no ride on buggies are permitted on the course. I have also been informed that with immediate effect ‘ placing through the green’ will apply, see link below for further details. Today we welcomed Rob Crookes as our new franchise caterer to PDGC. Rob introduces the Yorkshireman Restaurant to the Club and welcomes both members and non members to come and enjoy a meal with us. We wish Rob well in his new role. The Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Crookes as our franchised caterer here at PDGC. Robert has much experience in the catering trade in both restaurants and golf clubs.
The Board are sure that Robert will be a valuable asset for the Club and hope that his association with us will be successful.
Robert will start Sunday Lunches on the 1st October, please see attachment below for further details.

The Past Captain’s at their meeting held on Sunday 17th September have nominated Jim Roberts for the position of Vice-Captain in 2018 and Club Captain in 2019. This nomination will be submitted to the Board of Directors for formal adoption at its next meeting, prior to submission to the AGM. I’m sure you will join with me in offering our congratulations to Jim on this nomination.

Members are advised Mr Captain has arranged an ‘away day’ on Tuesday 3rd October to the home of our former Assistant Professional Steve Clancy at Ashbourne Golf Club in Derbyshire. Anyone interested in attending should add their name to the list in the 19th, first 40 names then reserves. The cost for the day will be £30, to include 18 holes of golf, prize fund and a one course meal afterwards.
Both Andy Wiltshire and Simon Coumbe won their Singles and Foursomes matches to help secure a 24-12 win over Harrogate in the YIDDU (Inter District) matches yesterday at Ilkley Golf Club. They also represent the Union in the Team Championship matches at Cleveland this coming Sunday. Keep up the excellent work chaps!

Our 8th annual Sponsors Day AM-AM took place last Monday. The winning team this year was Design-a-Home, representing Malcolm McDermott were Malcolm Roberts, Paul Beecher, Bruce Dickinson and Alan Graham with a team score of 95 points. Harratts Nissan, represented by Mr Captain, Colin Roe, Ian Leeman and Ian Dougal came 2nd with 93 points and Vanguard Security represented by Mick Ludwell, Gary Painter, Mark Skelton and Mel Joblin with 91 points in 3rd place. The nearest pin winner on the 17th (Lady) Fay Green, (Gent, 14th) Ian Collett, nearest line 18th (Lady) Janet Machin, (Gent) Eamon Cahill. Our sponsors do provide the club with additional income and their support is very much appreciated. Last but not least, Dawn and her team provided everyone with an excellent meal and helped quench everyone’s thirst at the bar. We look forward to welcoming everyone again in 2018.
Andy Wiltshire, Daz Walton and Simon Coumbe all scored points in a 24-12 win against East Riding in the Yorkshire Inter Union Golf League. The matches played at Cookridge Hall on Sunday consolidated second position in the league. Well done chaps.
Congratulations to Richard Lunn on winning this years McGregor Trophy with a Nett 68, beating Brian Fisher ( 4 second places in Major’s this year) by 1 shot (Nett 69) and Michael Clowery (Nett 70).
Darryl Frame our Assistant Professional is starting, this evening and every Thursday, golf fitness classes in the dining room between 6pm and 7pm. Gary and his team are hard at work today on the greens, deep scarifying and blec overseeeding with bent grasses, top dressing and then finishing off by brush matting. By the weekend you will hardly notice they have been treated. Feedback from members and visitors has been tremendous in their endeavours to continually improve the course under Gary’s leadership.
At their recent match vs. Bradford Union played at Bracken Ghyll Golf Club, the LDUGC scratch team came out victorious with a final score of 19-17. Simon Coumbe represented PDGC and added a valuable point to the tally in the afternoon foursomes matches. This leaves the team lying 2nd to Sheffield in the league. Well played Simon.
Normanton Camera Club visited PDGC in July taking action shots around the clubhouse and practice area. We are grateful for the montage of photographs offered to the club following their visit and we look forward to welcoming them again in the future. Congratulations to Chris Beardsmore with an excellent Nett 65, beating Brian Fisher (3rd runners up spot in a Major in 2017) by 2 shots (Nett 67) and Bernard Duffy (Nett 68) to claim the Senior Cup for 2017, well played.
