Ladies’ Captain’s Blog

The Ladies’ Captain Blog – the first 3 months.

Welcome to my blog which I thought would be a good way  to let everyone know what is going.  I will try my best to keep it up to date but that will be determined by my free time.

Well it is 3 months since I stood up at the AGM – and boy was I nervous – to accept the Captaincy of the Section, thank you to all of those Ladies who attended.

I wrote my speech pretty late on considering I had been Vice Captain for a year and had plenty of time to prepare, sometimes I like to wing it as much as bring it, but  I hope it wasnt too long and  I got over what an honor it is to be the Ladies’ Captain.

My first event was The Christmas Celebration, for that I was prepared, I had persuaded Brian (my other half for those who don’t know) to dress up as Father Christmas ( he has always liked dressing up) and I joined him as an Elf ( a great big Elf) to give out the presents that you all brought and a couple of prizes that were won earlier in the year.  I had also persuaded John Portman to be our Quiz Master for the afternoon (he wouldn’t dress up).  Apart from Father Christmas overheating a little as the afternoon went on, it went off with a bang.  And of course Sylvia was there to record the event for me.

Following hot on the Celebration was the Children’s Party, luckily I had some veteran attendees there to help me along with the arrangements, thanks Dill you pointed me in the right direction.  Santa arrived on time (along with his hurriedly arranged bell – don’t forget Kath you need a bell for him to ring as he arrives !)  I don’t know how he does it every year .  I wonder why Santa doesn’t have his own bell on his sleigh????  The children were well entertained by Billy Bodkin and well fed by Jane, it seems that a good time was had by all.

Captain’s Inauguration went well – didn’t it Mr. Captain!  A very brief speech this time as there are so many Captain’s to inaugurate. Captain and Vice Captain of the  Club, Rabbits , Ladies, Juniors, Tigers and Seniors congratulations to you all and enjoy your year.

Then it was off to the photographer, the least said about that photograph the best!!!

Then a real quiet time during January and February, when the most important issue on our minds was more about keeping warm, dry and not being blown away.  The course has taken a real hammering with the weather, but it now seems to be recovering and hopefully it will be all systems go for the opening of the season.

Buddy Holly’s appearance at the Valentines Dinner Dance really sparked off the Social Event calendar, I must say I think he is looking very well to say?! And what a great load of rock and rollers we have at the club, I saw some real movers on that dance floor. Let’s hope it’s the start of great nights – can’t wait for Rod

I am looking forward to kicking off the season with the Section Dinner closely followed by the Solheim Cup, I hope you are too.

Remember the Ladies’ Committee meeting is held on the first Tuesday in every month and there is a suggestion book in the Competition room for your ideas and comments.  The minutes are available for you in the folder in the Comp room also
