Junior Update – 17th April

It has been a hectic start to the season for the juniors. We had our traditional get together on Good Friday with assistant pro Steve giving a coaching session to the younger members followed by a session unplugging balls on the driving range. The boys then had a bacon sandwich in the club before playing a round. Tom Hough and Will Wright both represented the district in a fantastic victory against traditional top side from South Yorkshire at Garforth. Tom and Will lost their foursomes narrowly in the morning before winning both their singles matches in the afternoon. Both were playing lower handicappers off scratch and showed great composure to get over the line. Last Friday the juniors played thier first major, although it was a top eight to qualify, George Hough qualified first followed by Billy Williscroft. On Thursday it was the district team championships at Normanton. It was disappointingly organised when Wakefield area were back at school so a full strength team could not be entered. However, although the team of Tom ,George and Will Armitage was not challenging for team honours, Tom continued his good form to shoot the third lowest gross on the day. This year looks very promising for the junior team with league and cup fixtures up and coming. Anyone interested in joining the Club, remember membership is available between ages 10-18 for £58.
