Junior Open 29th May

On Friday the club hosted its first junior open with an excellent turn out of almost thirty entrants, including three girl entries, which was nice to see,  and from all over Yorkshire. The weather was pretty miserable before improving after the first hour of play, so it was credit to the players (and parents) for all turning up. I am pleased to report that the two main prizes, best gross and best nett were won by Pontefract juniors. Thomas Hough made 3’s on the last five holes to come in with a tremendous gross 71 which won the competition by an impressive seven shots. Jak Cavanagh from Moortown came second and Todd Hughes from Mid Yorkshire third. This result backs up Tom winning the Selby junior open earlier in the week and leaves him ahead in the Leeds and District order of merit. The nett prize was won by Billy Williscroft, who backed up his fine start to the season with a nett 67. Oscar Land from Moor Allerton was second with a 68 and Jamie Dunion from Oulton Hall was third with a 68. The longest drive prize was won by Alex Hellewell from Waterton Park and closest to the pin was Cameron Spurr from Low Laithes. Best of the girls was Adriana Garcia-Martin with a nett 74. Thank you to Mr Captain, Chris Peace for making the presentations afterwards, with many staying behind. The whole day was a success with plenty of admiring comments from parents and players about the club and the course. It would be nice to build on this day in the future and if anyone would like to be a sponsor we could get the prize fund up and work more on advertising to grow the event and make it a special day in the club calendar. Anyone interested please contact myself or Malcolm in the office. Steve Hough- Junior organiser.   JuniorOpen Scores
