Finals Day – Low Laithes 30th August

The two foursomes maestros ‘dancing’ Daz Walton and Andy ‘boots’ Wiltshire won the LDUGC Foursomes Championship for Pontefract at Low Laithes. Playing Scarcroft,  who had former Leeds, Manchester United and England footballer Lee Sharpe in their team, the lads started with a run of 3’s to give them a five hole lead. This lead was whittled down to a nervy looking one before order was restored with a victory 3 & 2 on the sixteenth. A fantastic achievement which is becoming a regular occurrence for these two quality golfers. Well done gentlemen.

Tom Hough takes the junior matchplay title – Playing someone with a four shot lower handicap off scratch in a final is a difficult thing to do. Throw in a slight dip in form of late and an opponent who won the prize for lowest round in the Yorkshire team championships last week, the task for Tom Hough in the LDUGC junior matchplay final was immense. Favourites are there to be shot down however, and showing the tremendous composure that got him to the final and an awesome display of putting, Tom came out victorious with a 2 & 1 victory. Tom was two shots under gross after seventeen holes, which is a fantastic effort under pressure. Tom this week goes for a double as he is also the clear leader in the LDUGC order of merit with two rounds to go. Well done and good luck Tom.
